The Insurance Zone - Loss of Use

Have you ever suffered from loss of use?

Too many Expediters and Truckers get the short end of the deal when they’re in a not-at-fault accident. Let’s say you’ve been hit by a car causing damage to your unit & thankfully everyone is ok… but

The at-fault driver has insurance which is great, because you never know! So the insurer pays for the towing & the repair costs & you’re just happy they didn’t chisel the estimate. Back on the road you go.

Wait just a minute…what about the money you lost while waiting to repair your vehicle? Did you haul any loads without it? Maybe…if you had a replacement rental, but this doesn’t happen much with expediting units.

So where is the insurance check for “Loss of Use”, not to mention the expenses for the motel on the night of the accident or the rental car to get around while waiting for repairs? Hmmm…How much did that accident really cost you?

You have a right to expect payment for these losses. How do you do it, and what is involved? Your truck insurance agent should help you with this process.

A professional trucking agent should provide all the assistance you need in a claim as part of good customer service, so be sure to demand it if you’re ever in this position. Your agent is your advocate, and there are few better rewards in this business than helping recoup $4,000 or so in lost revenue for a client, believe me.
