The Nissan NV hopes to claim a portion of the projected 224,000 van sales for this year in a market dominated by Ford and General Motors, with the
Mercedes Benz/Freightliner Sprinter controlling only 5% of the market.
Production of the NV started in January at Nissan’s Canton, MS assembly facility and should hit the select 247 Nissan Commercial Vehicle dealerships carrying it in mid March. Nissan will be expanding availability to 300 dealerships in 2012.
The NV boasts improved interior comfort and will be available in three models - a half ton, 3⁄4 ton and one ton. Two of the models have the option of a high roof, accommodating an extra 80 cubic feet over the standard roof. Engine size options include a 4.0 liter V6 and a 5.6 liter V8, with a five speed automatic transmission.
